» finally made it into a slip in monterey after three long but rewarding days at anchor. the last test came with bringing in the anchor, it took 3 hours to haul. first the from the strern, nothing, then the bow, nothing, nothing and nothing, she willn’t come up. then comes the engine, we spin circles around the rhode, then warp around the winch, inch by inch, strength completely depleted, boat staying heeled over on starboard side being pulled to the depths by what i’m slowing realizing is my first anchor snag, i looked at the depth sounder, 36 feet of water, i still have out 100′ feet of rhode and 60′ of chain, yet my anchor line is coming straight up from the bottom, call the harbor get a number for a diver, i remember at one moment i thought of moses, but instead of “lord let my people go free” it was “lord let my anchor go free”, finally just before dialing up the diver, as I was sitting heeled over with the dangerously tight rhode there was big snap, i instantly felt relief cause i knew my boat was free, now i just had to find out if the snap was my gear or something else, thankfully i got all my tackle back, but barely seeing as my arms were in constant agony from fighting with the rhode, and finally i made it to the slip
